Stay Flu-Free This Season: Easy Tips for Boosting Your Immunity!

Written by Shane Smith | Sep 11, 2024 11:00:00 AM

Hey! This week was more of a rest week for me after coming back from Dragon Con. We returned Monday night, as I mentioned last week. Sometimes we stay later, even until Monday night or Tuesday morning. This time, we got back Monday afternoon around 4:00 or 5:00 to avoid the traffic. I’d forgotten how big of a deal it is just to get a bellhop or a luggage cart. We called for one at 3:00 on Monday, and it took an hour for it to arrive, reminding me why we used to leave later, around 7:00 or 8:00 PM, to avoid the wait. Coordinating a ride back is always a challenge when you’re unsure of your departure time.

Once we got back, we unloaded everything. My ankle is still a bit messed up, so I’m not supposed to carry heavy stuff. We called some friends to help unload, which made me feel terrible because I couldn’t move the big stuff, but they were great about it. Our parents and Holly spent most of the week putting things away, organizing our costume area, sorting through our stuff, and cleaning up. It's always a big cleanup afterward. We were excited because we got a commissioned painting of Odin from one of our favorite artists at the con, and now we’re looking for the perfect spot to hang it in the house.

Tuesday was a recovery day for me, catching up on emails since I'd left Wednesday afternoon. I worked from home and felt less productive, which reminded me why I prefer the office. By Wednesday, I was caught up, and it was a manager day. On Thursday, I flew to Charlotte for a quick trip, which made the week feel compressed. I was back to catch-up mode immediately.

I met with a couple of my attorneys about a big case we’re handling. We spent a lot of time discussing theories and strategies to ensure this family gets everything they deserve. It’s a tough situation, and the more I dig into it, the worse it seems, but we’re committed to seeing it through.

I also met with two other attorneys to discuss their caseloads, shot some videos, and experimented with new techniques. I flew back Thursday night, which always means getting home late. On Friday, I had lunch with my family. Since it was post-Dragon Con, I treated myself to a chicken quesadilla with honey mustard, which, believe it or not, counts as a cheat meal due to the extra fat and sugar.

On Saturday, I went to a new gun range with my dad because our usual one in Peachtree City closed down. We found one in Fayetteville, and it seems like it will be our new go-to for target practice. It’s not as long as we’d like for rifles, but it works well for pistols. We’re still looking for an outdoor range for rifles since my dad, my oldest son, and I enjoy that.

Later on Saturday, we tried a new Mexican restaurant in Newnan with friends. It was good, but it doesn’t beat our local favorite, El Ranchero. After that, we stayed home and assembled a new desk for my home entertainment room, which reminded me why I don’t love Ikea furniture—the instructions were confusing, and it took longer than expected. But we got it done, and now I'm in the process of moving everything over to the new desk. I've had my old desk for about ten years, so it was time for a change.

That was my week! I hope everyone else is doing well and staying healthy. It seems like a bunch of viruses are going around, so I encourage everyone to take care. I’ve found that rest and some Emergen-C packets help keep my immune system strong. Talk to y'all later and always remember if you are in pain, call Shane!

I had an absolutely fantastic time at the company picnic this Labor Day! From the moment I arrived, I made sure everyone knew I was in the house. I strutted in with all the confidence of a feline royal, and the humans couldn’t get enough of me. The smell of the BBQ was heavenly, but, of course, I maintained my dignity and chose to observe from a comfortable distance rather than diving into the feast.

I found the perfect sunny spot in the garden to lounge and soak up all the admiration coming my way. The humans kept coming over to give me affectionate pats, which I graciously accepted with a purr and a flick of my tail. I kept a respectful distance from the other pets—especially the dogs—who knew better than to intrude on my royal space.

Overall, it was a splendid day. I enjoyed the warm sun, the gentle attention, and the delightful aromas of the BBQ, all while keeping my regal composure. It was definitely a picnic fit for a king!
