Some weeks are packed with big events, and some weeks are filled with the little moments that end...
Father’s Day at Home With Good Food and Family
This week, we were home most of the time.
It was one of those weeks where we were not doing anything huge, but there were still a lot of little things going on. With Father’s Day weekend coming up, Holly and I started looking around for some things we could do close to home.
Sometimes that is the best kind of weekend. Not a major trip. Not a packed schedule. Just finding a few things nearby and seeing what sounds fun.
Looking at Local Events Again
One place we started looking at was the Masquerade in Atlanta.
We used to go there a couple of years ago, and now it has shifted over to Underground Atlanta. They have also split the club into different areas, so it looks a little different than it used to.
We were looking through some of their events, and they had a K-pop night with a DJ that looked interesting.
We did not make it this time, but it may be something we try in the future. It is always fun finding something different to do, especially when it is something you used to enjoy but have not been back to in a while.
Trying Duck Bowling
We did end up going duck bowling.
If you have never been duck bowling, it is different from regular bowling. The lanes are shorter, and the ball is much smaller and lighter.
That sounds like it would make it easier, but it really does not.
What we found out pretty quickly is that you have to be careful not to roll the ball too hard. Since the ball is so light, it is very easy to throw it down the lane harder than you mean to.
With a regular bowling ball, the weight does a lot of the work. With duck bowling, you almost have to slow yourself down.
Bowling in Peachtree City
We went to Royal Pins in Peachtree City, which has both duck bowling and regular bowling.
We originally went for regular bowling, but ended up trying duck bowling too. It was a fun change of pace.
It is one of those activities that seems simple, but once you start doing it, you realize there is a little more to it than expected.
And of course, anytime Holly and I can get out and do something a little different, it makes for a good afternoon.
The Pokémon Card Market Is Wild
Something else I learned this week is that the Pokémon card market is way more intense than I realized.
I remember when you could just walk into Target or Walmart and buy a pack or two. Apparently, that is not always the case anymore.
A lot of the boxes and cards get bought up quickly, and then people resell them online through places like eBay, Amazon, or specialty shops.
It was surprising to see how hard some of them are to get now.
There are also so many different types and sets now.
It is not just grabbing a random pack like it used to be. There are boxes, special sets, rare cards, and all kinds of different releases.
Clearly, their marketing has worked very well, because people are paying attention.
It was just funny to me because I remember when it seemed like a simple thing. Now, it feels like its own entire world.
Somehow Interested in Ground Cover
Holly and I have also started looking at different types of ground cover for the ranch.
We like flowers and plants, and we have been trying to figure out what might look good out there and also make sense for the space.
I never really thought I would be interested in ground cover, but apparently, that is where we are now.
And of course, once you start looking at something online, Instagram figures it out immediately. Now I am getting all kinds of posts about ground cover, plants, and landscaping ideas.
That is how you know you have entered a new phase of life.
Cleaning Out the Things We Forgot About
We are still trying to clean things out and get rid of stuff we do not need anymore.
During that process, we found some old office phones.
I think these were from when we moved from Charlotte a few years ago. We had kept them, brought them back up to the office, and then they just sat there.
At this point, I think they are obsolete, and we do not use them anymore.
It is a reminder of how much stuff we save thinking we may need it again one day.
The Problem With Keeping Everything
Garages, attics, storage rooms, overflow areas. They all end up holding things we think might be useful later.
Then a few years go by, and you realize you never went back for any of it.
By the time you find it again, it is either outdated, broken, or basically worthless.
It is kind of crazy how much stuff we all hold onto for no real reason.
Finding those phones was a good reminder that sometimes it is better to just clear things out and move on.
Sam and the Dragon Con Diet Temptation
Sam has been using my office some in the afternoons when I am not there so he can study.
That part is great.
The problem is that he has also been eating candy in the afternoon.
I am not sure if he is trying to tempt me off my Dragon Con diet, or if he is just rubbing it in because he still has that youthful metabolism.
Either way, it is not helpful.
I am trying to stay strong, but it is a lot easier when someone is not eating candy in front of you.
Father’s Day Weekend
Of course, the biggest part of the week was Father’s Day weekend.
Sam went up to Charlotte to spend the weekend with some friends, and then he worked in the Charlotte office for a couple of days.
Noah flew back home and spent Father’s Day weekend with us.
That was great because we got to spend a lot of time with him while he was here.
Good Food and Family Time
While Noah was home, we made sure to hit some of his favorite local restaurants.
We went to Ranchero, went to Ted’s, and had dinner with my folks as well.
It was a simple weekend, but it was a good one.
Sometimes that is really all you need. Good food, family around, and time together without having to rush through everything.
A Good Father’s Day
Overall, it was a really nice Father’s Day weekend.
Sam was able to spend some time in Charlotte and work from the office there. Noah was able to come home and hang out with us. Holly and I got some time with family and still managed to do a few fun things around town.
It was not a huge, overplanned weekend.
It was just a good one.
Final Thoughts
This week was a mix of little things.
Duck bowling. Pokémon cards. Ground cover. Old office phones. Sam is studying in my office. Noah coming home. Father’s Day dinner with family.
Nothing too crazy, but a lot of good moments.
Sometimes those are the weeks that end up being the most memorable.
I hope everyone had a great weekend, and I hope all the fathers had a wonderful Father’s Day as well.
