So, this week we sort of recovered from graduation, having all the company over, and then on Sunday...
Countdown to Halloween: Haunted House Fun at Our Place
Hey, everyone! Shane here. Just got back from an incredible trip to New York City Comic Con—it was amazing, but, unfortunately, not long after I got back, I woke up Monday morning feeling off. Ended up heading to the doctor and, sure enough, they told me I had bronchitis. If you’ve ever had it, you know it’s no walk in the park. I got a prescription for antibiotics that was supposed to do the trick in five days, but mid-week I realized they weren’t cutting it. I called the doctor back, and they switched me to a new set. The whole experience reminded me of just how much I hate being sick!
For a while there, I was coughing so much it was almost impossible to get a decent night’s sleep. I even started using our guest bedroom to make sure I didn’t keep Holly up all night. It took until Thursday for me to start feeling even a bit better. That second round of antibiotics finally seemed to kick in, and things started improving. Let me tell you, though, there’s nothing like finally getting a good night’s sleep after a week like that. Definitely made me appreciate good health a lot more!
On top of that, I’ve been spending a lot of time with our team and our senior attorneys, staying updated on all the cases we’re working on. We’re always looking for ways to ensure our clients get the best care possible. I feel really lucky to work with such a dedicated team—seeing them put their hearts into each case is inspiring.
Aside from work, Holly and I have been in a big decluttering mode lately. I know most people do spring cleaning, but we decided it was time to get organized now. We’re aiming for a more minimal, clean look—kind of inspired by the style we’ve set up in our Charlotte office. It’s funny how things accumulate over time: desks, old clothes, and random knickknacks. We went through closets and boxes, clearing out clothes we haven’t worn in years. It feels refreshing to let go of things that just take up space.
We’re also gearing up for Halloween! We’re putting together a haunted house at our place in Peachtree City, which has been a fun project. I even started filming some videos to share the process, but setting up the gear was more challenging than I remembered! I had to improvise a bit, stacking books to get the camera at the right height since the tripod wasn’t quite tall enough. Eventually, I got everything set up and managed to get some footage that I liked by the end of the week.
Since I wasn’t feeling great, I mostly stayed home, doing Zoom meetings and conference calls to keep things moving. The boys were excited, though, because there was a big UFC event on Saturday. Since it was held in Dubai, the main card started around 2 pm, which was great because it didn’t keep us up late. I enjoyed watching a few of the fights. I’m a big fan of Shara Bullet Magomedov, who’s not only a talented fighter but also inspiring since he’s competing with one functioning eye. He’s undefeated, and his spinning back fist was incredible to watch.
I also tuned in to see Robert Whittaker vs. Khamzat Chimaev. Chimaev is known for his aggressive style, and he really showed up, winning in the first round. Then there was the last match between Ilia Topuria and Max Holloway, where Topuria pretty much dominated for the BMF title. It was a great lineup of fights, so if you’re into UFC, you know it was a good event. The only surprise was that this was the first pay-per-view event in Abu Dhabi—usually, those fights are free to watch.
Over the weekend, Holly and I also went out for a bit. One of our old favorite spots held a reunion event, and we couldn’t resist going. It was a blast, but also a bit bittersweet. They had a wall dedicated to people who were regulars back in the day and have since passed away. Seeing all those faces made us realize just how fast time flies. We even ran into some old friends we hadn’t seen in years. It was a little surreal realizing how much we’ve all changed over time, but it made for a memorable night.
Now that we’re heading into the holiday season, I’m looking forward to some downtime and hoping some exciting new movies come out. The holiday season is always a big time for blockbusters, and I’m eager to see what’s on the way. I haven’t been to the theater in a while since nothing lately has really caught my eye, but I’m hoping Thanksgiving and Christmas bring some great releases.
With Halloween coming up and Thanksgiving and Christmas right around the corner, it’s an exciting time of year. Hope everyone’s doing well and staying healthy!
