A Long Flight and an Unexpected Start Getting to Korea was not easy. It was a long flight, the kind...
Old Bombers, New Memories, and a Busy Weekend
Some weeks feel like they stretch across three different seasons and five different hobbies all at once, and this was one of those weeks. Between a quick trip to Charlotte, getting outside before getting caught in the rain, trying a local restaurant we somehow had never visited, heading to an anime convention, and wrapping up with Memorial Day and family, it ended up being one of those weeks that reminds you how much you can fit into a few days.
A Quick Trip to Charlotte and a Piece of History
We did a one day trip up to Charlotte this week.
One of the cooler surprises while we were there was seeing one of those old bomber planes from the World War era. You forget how massive those aircraft actually are until you're standing near one. Pictures never quite do them justice.
What always stands out to me too is how different the planes looked back then. They had personality to them. The artwork, the names painted on the side, that whole pin-up era style that became part of aviation history.
There just are not many of those planes left anymore. I think I heard they are down to only a few still operating.
It is always neat when something unexpected like that turns a regular trip into something memorable.
Keeping Up With Jiu-Jitsu and Talking Training Again
Continuing with jiu-jitsu.
I talked with Sam some this week about maybe getting back into it too. He used to train quite a bit and now that he's working during the day, we were looking at class schedules that fit around work hours instead of the old flexibility of training whenever.
It would be fun to see him jump back in. Sometimes getting started again is the hardest part.
Finally Trying a Local Spot We Somehow Missed
Thursday night ended up being one of those simple nights that turns into a really good memory.
Holly and I went out on a date and finally tried Georgia Shrimp Company in Peachtree City.
Which is kind of funny because we've been here for years and somehow had never actually gone.
Sam had been before and people have recommended it forever, but for whatever reason we just never made it there.
Glad we finally did.
The food was excellent. Honestly, I do not think I would have gotten better seafood driving downtown somewhere. If you're down this way, I would absolutely recommend giving it a try.
A Picnic That Turned Into a Sprint
Wednesday afternoon we went out and spent some time on the land.
Everything started off great.
Then the weather had other ideas.
We ended up getting caught under the canopy while it rained and waited it out for a while. Once it slowed down enough, we made a full sprint for the truck and headed back.
So the picnic got a little wetter than planned.
Still worth getting out there.
MomoCon: Cars, Crowds, and a Fun Saturday
![]()
Saturday we headed up to Atlanta for MomoCon.
If you've never been, it has a different feel from Dragon Con. The crowd tends to skew a little younger, but it is still a really fun event.
One thing I always notice is the vehicles.
They block off part of the space and bring in themed builds and wrapped cars. There was a lot to check out, including some really creative displays and themed setups.

Sam came with us and we spent most of the day wandering around, checking out shops and artists.
There were a couple of really cool merch areas and one artist signing work, so we picked up something signed while we were there.
Holly found a little stuffed mushroom she liked enough to photograph. That feels pretty on brand.
By around 2:30 or 3:00, we decided to head out before the crowd got too intense.
Good timing, too.
By the time we left, it had gotten packed.
As a bonus, there was also a Jamaican parade happening nearby, so on the way out, we caught part of that too. Completely unexpected, but pretty neat to see.
Wrapping Up Memorial Day With Family
Monday was Memorial Day.
We spent it with my parents, my brother, his wife, and their kid.
My wife and my dad made ribs on the Green Eggs, and they turned out great.
Nothing complicated. Just good food, family, and a chance to slow down for a bit.
Hope everybody had a great weekend too.
Final Thought
Weeks like this are a good reminder that sometimes the best moments are not the big planned events. Sometimes it is seeing a historic plane you were not expecting, finally trying the local place everyone talks about, getting caught in the rain, or ending the weekend eating ribs with family.
Those are usually the moments that stick around the longest.
Talk soon.
