Finding Fitness in a Boot: Creative Cardio Solutions

Hey, so it was just a regular week here for Shane Smith Law, and nothing too crazy. Noah did end up going back up to High Point to get ready for the house repair. If you remember back in May, a tree hit it during the storm. The roof finally got repaired in June and then we got some estimates and they did the cleanup, I guess, where they got rid of some water damage and now they're finally ready to begin the repairs of the actual house. Part of me says this is crazy. You forget how much damage can be done to a house until you know somebody who's gone through it just from regular water.

It's just been a much bigger thing than we've planned, and it's mostly contained to the porch and the dining room, but then it hit the entryway, and I didn't know this about tile, but if you had to pull the tile up in one part of a house, wherever that tile connects, if it runs straight through, a lot of times they have to pull it all up because otherwise, it doesn't lay right. And this tile goes all the way down the hall from the entryway. So, it's just continued to grow, and be an issue.

But they got all the estimates, they got it to the insurance company, everything's finally approved, and they should start next week. So, Noah went back to HPU to sort of just be around while they were doing all the fixing. He's enjoyed being in Atlanta for the last month. Got to see some of his friends, and hopefully the house will be all done before school starts for him on the 12th and then for Sam on the 17th. Robin is still with us because that's Sam's dog and Sam is still in Georgia until school starts on the 17th.

Image - 2024-07-23T093638.725Now, if you recall, I stepped wrong on my treadmill, then on some cords, and just landed funny and twisted my ankle really badly. Well, I saw the doctor on Monday, and he said, not only did I twist my ankle badly, but I broke my toe and hurt my ankle. So, they stuck me in a boot and then I had an MRI on Thursday. So that was a hassle. And like all of our clients say, it makes a lot of noise. And I know they give you these headphones to play music, and they ask you what kind you want. But to be quite honest, the music's not loud enough to cover up all the banging and drumming and noises of the MRI. So, I'm not sure the music is better. I almost would rather try to get some noise-canceling headphones. I thought about when I go next time, I may take my shooting headphones with me and see if that works. Or I wonder if some of the noise suppression factors on some Air Pods would work as well, better than that, but they may be too metal. I'd have to look into it.

I had that done, and I will get the results this next week. I know how all my clients feel when they get an MRI and then they're waiting for the review because I'm worried that some of the tendons may have been messed up in my ankle. I'm hopeful not, but we'll just wait and see, should find that out next week.

Image - 2024-07-23T093648.194Now, obviously being in a boot has messed up my fitness stuff for Dragon Con. I was getting 10,000-11,000 steps a day. That was what my coach had recommended for weight loss. Now I'm in this boot, so I'm not able to do that. I'm supposed to limit my mobility, so he changed some stuff around, can't do legs, but still do my regular lifting. But then he also added like four days a week, 25 minutes of cardio that I can do, which right now is a little bit of kettlebell swings, and some battle ropes I had bought years ago, so I can do seated battle ropes. So, I'm in a chair and just do battle ropes with my arms basically, and a little bit of leaning one way or the other. It's a pain. I don't like it. It's 45 seconds on, 15 seconds of recovery, for a total of 25 minutes.

So that's been going on the last week to try to continue on my weight loss journey. But we'll see. I'm hopeful that I'll go to the doctor this next week and they'll say there's no ripped tendons, it's just a sprained ankle and I can start walking, but I'll see. The toe is a big issue right now too, because like I say, it was broken. So, it wasn't just a crack in it, it actually broke a part of the bone off. It was broken clean, a chip all down the side, so it wasn't displaced, nothing like that. It's there, but it's obviously weak. That's a big concern for me. I don't know how long that'll take to get me out of this silly boot, but that's where I'm at. I'm hopeful that I will be out of it quickly.

I did go shooting with my dad and Noah before he went back to High Point. Mostly just pistols. We go to a local indoor range here, which is pretty convenient, but I am looking for an outdoor range. So, if anybody knows where one is, a good outdoor range in South Atlanta or South Charlotte, I'd like to know, so I can shoot some a little further distance. If you know of one, please send it to info@shanesmithlaw.com. I'd love to hear it. Otherwise, we're just doing stuff around the house and working on cleaning stuff up. Hope everybody's doing well. As always, if you are in pain, call Shane!

Image - 2024-07-23T144246.286Hey everyone, it’s Kingston here, your favorite feline from Shane Smith Law. I had quite the 4th of July—lounging in the sun, soaking up all the festive vibes. The fireworks? Let’s just say they were more of a light show than a big deal for me. I watched with my usual air of indifference, amused by how humans can get so caught up in the holiday excitement.

But here’s the scoop: with all the heat and holiday shenanigans, it seems people have been a bit off their game. That’s right, me and my colleagues at the firm have been swamped lately, dealing with all sorts of cases. It’s like the chaos of the holiday spilled over into the everyday hustle.

So, let me drop some wisdom from my cozy perch here. While you’re out enjoying the summer festivities, remember to stay sharp and drive safely. The fireworks and celebrations are all well and good, but they’re no excuse for letting your guard down on the road. Safe driving isn’t just a good idea; it’s essential.

So, from me, Kingston, and all of us at Shane Smith Law, have fun, stay safe, and remember that even though the holiday can be a blast, your safety should always come first.
