Nacho Average Weekend—Law School, Fights, and a New Hangout Spot!

a949758c-1313-4e81-867c-0d7685285d67Hey, so this last week was a busy week for us. Noah had started law school last week, so that was an exciting first day in class. They'd done some orientation-type stuff, which is really just to get you used to law school. They teach you a little bit about how to read a case, find the holdings, really what it means and where to look for the facts. And a lot of times, they'll also teach you how to do a brief, a case brief, which is an important document. You use it usually your first year or two if you are an associate working for somebody else to sort of brief them on a new case.

As a lawyer, if the facts look the same, I'll jump down to the holding and then I'll go from there. But it's a great skill you learn in law school. So, they did a lot of that and got used to the format of the classes and sort of how the lecture and the question method goes because a lot of law schools still use what's called the Socratic method where they teach by asking questions to get you used to thinking.

So, he said that was good. Interesting. Met some people. There are several people from High Point undergrad there and a lot of people came in as this is their second career. So, he said he was surprised at the number of people who were older than he was, which was neat. But he made it through his first week. Also, in their house, they're done with all the interior stuff finally. If you remember a tree fell and hit the roof in May and then it's just taken that long to get everything in and approved by insurance and paid, started, and repaired. Still have to do some work on the porch. But the interior is all done, which was a great thing. Everybody felt good.

Me and Holly went up there to sort of do the drop off for college. We met Sam up there as well. He'd driven separately. Me and Holly were in Charlotte for a couple of days, and we went up there Saturday morning. Saw the boys, checked out their house, helped them clean and straighten up some of all the fixing they did because that dust gets everywhere. Did some cleaning for them, helped them hang a TV. It's just that now I'm still on the scooter, so I didn't do a whole bunch. Holly did most of it, but she sort of got them going and gave them a frame and direction and they were doing good.

When we left, we went to eat lunch. Went to, not their normal Mexican restaurant, to a different one that they found had better cheese dip. So that was good. And then me and Holly drove back to Peachtree City Saturday night. Watched the fights on Saturday night as well. Saw Du Plessis beat Izzy. So that was an exciting fight. I was really just watching that one to watch it is what I would say. Neither one of them are my favorite fighters, but it was definitely interesting, and they put on a good show and fought hard, and so it was a great fight to watch.

And then me and Holly were home Sunday. We saw my parents for supper. That's really it. Now that school has started, me and Holly are looking for some activities for us to do now that we're empty nesters again. I think we're going to start trying to go out to some of the best nacho places in Atlanta or Charlotte, depending on where we're at, and just experience that and go from there. So, if you know a great place with nachos, let us know. Send it in the comments, info@shanesmithlaw.com, and we'll take a look and check them out.

Image - 2024-08-20T163133.898As the summer days gradually give way to the start of school, I, Kingston the cat, can barely contain my excitement. To many, the return to school might seem like just another seasonal shift, but for me, it’s an opportunity for joy and contentment that only a feline could truly appreciate.

With the children heading back to their classrooms, I can’t help but feel a surge of enthusiasm. You see, the beginning of the school season means a delightful change in my daily routine. The house becomes quieter, and the energy that once filled every corner with bustling activity shifts to a more serene ambiance. This newfound tranquility is a dream come true for me. I’ve always loved basking in the sunbeams that stream through the windows, and with fewer interruptions, my sun-soaked naps become even more blissful.

The start of school also gives me the chance to fully embrace my daily rituals. With my humans busy with their work and school schedules, I have the entire house to myself. This freedom allows me to indulge in my favorite activities without the usual interruptions. I dash up and down the hallway, stretching and playing with my toys with unbridled enthusiasm. Every corner of the house becomes my playground, and I relish the chance to explore every nook and cranny at my own pace.

Another perk of the school season is the quiet solitude that comes with it. My humans often leave behind little treats or snacks in their rush, and I eagerly look forward to these delightful morsels. The peace and quiet mean I can enjoy these treats without anyone disturbing me, making my alone time even more enjoyable. The shift in routine also means more opportunities for me to lounge in my favorite spots, stretching out and soaking in the peaceful atmosphere.

Of course, I also look forward to when my humans return home at the end of the school day. Their cheerful spirits and stories about their day bring a pleasant change to my routine. The moments we share when they come back are filled with affection and companionship, and these interactions remind me of the special bond we have. Their presence, after a day of solitude, is always a welcome addition to my day.

In summary, the beginning of the school season is a time of great excitement for me. The change in household dynamics, the freedom to indulge in my playful antics, and the peaceful solitude make this period particularly enjoyable. As the school season unfolds, I embrace it with a full heart and a sense of delight, savoring the small joys it brings to my feline life.
