What Happened When Georgia Froze Over...

Image (29)Hey there! This week at Shane Smith Law has been a mix of busy and slow, depending on the day and the circumstances. Here in Georgia, we faced another bout of bad weather—this time, it was less about snow and more about ice. We did get a little snow, but it was that hard, frozen kind that doesn’t go anywhere for a while. It stuck to the roads, melted just enough to refreeze, and caused issues for schools, commutes, and daily tasks. It really threw things off for about two days.

Image-1The pre-snow hype didn’t help either—schools sent out closure notices ahead of time, which added to the distraction. You’d think we were preparing for a blizzard with the level of frenzy! The day it started snowing, it hit in the afternoon and disrupted everything, and by the next day, schools were fully shut down. It was another snow day for Shane Smith Law, but our team worked hard to get as much done as possible while still prioritizing everyone’s safety. These situations always remind me how adaptable and dedicated our team is, no matter the challenge.

On a brighter note, we had a special reason to celebrate this week—Noah came home to Peachtree City for his birthday! He and his longtime girlfriend, Carly, flew down from High Point University for the weekend. It’s always wonderful to have him home, even if it’s just for a few days. We spent time catching up as a family and had a few small celebrations. On the first night, Holly’s parents joined us, and we grabbed Mexican takeout from our favorite local spot. Noah loves it, and it’s become a bit of a tradition for us.

Image (28)The next day, we had dinner with my parents, my brother, and his family. Noah requested ham casserole, one of his favorites, so we made sure to have that. For dessert, he wanted a lemon icebox pie—simple but classic and exactly what he wanted. When he ate with Holly’s parents, his dessert of choice was banana pudding. No big birthday cakes this year—just his favorite family-style desserts, which really made the celebrations feel special and personal. Meanwhile, his brother stayed back in High Point to take care of his cats while Noah and Carly visited. It’s always nice to see how responsible they’ve become as adults. Noah didn’t head back until Monday morning, thanks to his light class schedule that day, which gave us a little extra time to enjoy his visit.

Outside of family time, I’ve been focused on my health and recovery. My ankle, which I broke this summer, is slowly but surely getting stronger. Unfortunately, I strained it again while moving things around closer to Christmas, which set me back a bit. It’s one of those injuries where just when you think it’s healed, it reminds you that it’s not quite there yet. I’m still wearing a brace for extra support and have started favoring ankle boots because they help stabilize it even more. The cold, rainy weather we’ve been having hasn’t exactly been kind to it either—it’s been achy lately, which is frustrating. Healing seems to take longer these days, but I’m staying hopeful and looking forward to the day it’s 100% better.

In more exciting news, Holly and I are gearing up for a big trip to Japan in about a month and a half! We’re celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary, and it’s just going to be the two of us. It’s been such a fun process planning the trip, figuring out where we want to go, and imagining all the things we’ll see and do. It’s been a while since we’ve taken a trip like this, so it feels extra special. I can’t wait to spend that time together, exploring a new place and celebrating such an important milestone in our lives.

So, that’s the week—a mix of weather challenges, family time, personal recovery, and exciting plans on the horizon. Life always has its ups and downs, but I’m grateful for every moment.

Hope you are well and, as always, if you’re in pain, call Shane!
